Dr. Agnes L Palys
Founder of the new Evers Road Vision Source and Therapeutic Optometrist - Dr. Palys is a 1976 graduate of the New England College of Optometry. She served five years as an Army Staff Optometrist at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington D.C. during which time she was appointed President of the Armed Forces Optometric Society. In 1979, she was honored in the Congressional Record for "dedication to patient care in the military."
After making San Antonio her home in 1981, she founded The Vision Source. She has earned the prestigious distinction of Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and Noteworthy Practitioner. She has served as Chancellor of Beta Sigma Kappa, President of Women in Business, on the Board of the Battered Women's Shelter and as a mentor for the Northside Independent School District. Dr. Palys is also a Bexar County Master Gardener and enjoyed vacation trips to Cozumel, Belize, and a transatlantic crossing on the Queen Mary 2 from New York to London. She cruised to Tahiti and had a blast in seeing the buffalo and elk in Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons. This was followed by her son's Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya and a quick visit to the sandy beaches of Aruba. She vacationed 8 days on a SeaDream II Yacht cruise of the small islands of the Caribbean. Last Spring a tour of Egypt and cruise on the Nile was wonderful. Other trips included the The Boardwalk Inn at Disney World and a Princess Holy Land cruise from Athens, Greece. She also travelled to Peru to explore the Incan ruins of Machu Picchu before the floods and mudslides this past winter. She has recently returned from a relaxing trip to El Dorado Suites in the Riviera Maya and is looking forward to a Regent Cruise of the Black Sea countries in the Fall. |

Dr. Ronald L. Opland
Therapeutic Optometrist - Dr.Opland is a 1968 graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago,Illinois. He is a Army retired Lieutenant Colonel serving with honor and distinction as an Optometry Officer for over twenty years in a variety of foreign and domestic assignments.
He started a private optometry practice in Canton, South Dakota after his army retirement. He was an elected member of the School Board for three terms and was an active member of his church, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary International, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
After thirteen years, he sold his practice and moved with his wife of thirty-three years to San Antonio. He brings over forty six years of vision care experience along with a remarkable energy and love of people and his profession to the Vision Source. He is a proud grandfather and loves both his children and their young children!

Dr. Donald F. Semler Therapeutic Optometrist- Dr. Semler is a 1974 graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry. He is a retired LTC with over twenty years in the U.S. Army as an Optometrist and retiring as Chief of the EENT Clinc and Eye Services, Fort Eustis, Virginia. Dr. Semler brings a wealth of experience as a Therapeutic Optometrist with the Eye Center of Central Texas, Temple, Tx and more recently with the Marr Eye Center, Bryan, Texas. He is a member of the American and Texas Optometric Associations and Past President of Bravos Valley Optometric Society. He was a Medical Eye Mission Volunteer with the Benevolent Mission International with six missions to Belize. His hobbies include: running, cycling, golf, fishing, reading and swimming. He and his wife Betty, and two sons, Sam and Hayden are proud to call San Antonio their new home.

George McLean
Executive Director - George handles all of the business, managerial, and financial affairs of the Vision Source. Mr. McLean obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola College and a Masters in Health Care Administration from George Washington University. He is a retired Army Reserve Lt. Colonel with prior administrative assignments at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Brooke Army Medical Center and Army Health Services Command. Mr. McLean is a Certified Health Care Executive in the College of Health Care Executives, Member of the Medical Group Management Association, and a Life Member of the Retired Reserve Officer's Corps. In addition, he is the owner of the Practice's GAMC Travel Agency based here in our Vision Source office. He is a Certified Costa Rican,Kauai, Cancun, Acapulco and Las Vegas Certified Destination Specialist. He is a Graduate of the College of Disney Knowledge. He recently completed extensive training to become a Commodore with Princess and Cunard cruise lines. George is a member of the American Society of Travel Agents, IATAN, CLIA, and a Master Cruise Counselor(MCC). Ask him for a quote to Disney World, Las Vegas,Cancun,or a Carnival or Royal Caribbean cruise out of Galveston. Be sure to ask for the Vision Source Discount! He traveled to Egypt, Israel, Turkey, and Croatia on a Holy Land Cruise and explored Macchu Pichu before the floods and mudslides. Tamara Dennis
Insurance Specialist - Tamara has worked in the eyecare field for 17 years as a CPR Certified Optometric Technician. She is currently in charge of all insurance issues in the office including verification of benefits, checking claim status as well as claims review and appeals. She electronically processes all insurance claims on the internet and handles a patient's questions and concerns regarding their insurance benefits.
She was born and raised in Germany and came to the United States in 1979. She later settled in San Antonio in 1986. She speaks fluent German,loves cooking and is truly a gourmet chef. Tamara has two grown children and looks forward to traveling this year. She enjoyed planning and hosting guests from Germany for her daughter's wedding at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens. She had a surprise Birthday Party that left her speechless with friends and family coming from all over the United States to wish her well!

Olivia Davis
Insurance Specialist: Olivia returns to the Vision Source after an absence of seven years. She is very proud of her three daughters and believe it or not, but also of 5 grandbabies! She loves spending time with all of them while enjoying the outdoors with her husband. She is a avid runner and fitness guru and spends her weekends participating in charity runs. With her constant training for a marathon, she hopes to enter a triathalon in the near future.

Brenda Alanis-Optometric Technician
Brenda is the Senior Optometric Technician here at the Vision Source. She performs preliminary testing and contact lens instruction and dispensing for our patients and teaches and mentoring new technicians that join the pratice. She enjoys spending time relaxing with her family and on weekends kicks up her heals and is a dancing machine at San Antonio hot spots! Talent scouts from Dancing with The Stars take notice of this San Antonio College of Medical and Dental Assitants graduate. Brenda started with the Vision Source in 2002 and looks forward to another Caribbean cruise in the coming months.

Jason Wess -Optometric Technician
Jason brings 13 years of opthalmic and optical experience to the Vision Source. He has managed opitcal labs at Pearl Vision and a private optometric practice. In addition, he has worked for two glaucoma doctors and a ocular plastic surgeon. He and his wife of ten years have a seven year old son who keeps them both busy! During his spare time, Jason enjoys playing his guitar, visiting family in the Gulf, and raising parrots. Watch for him in the near future on Ameican Idol and Animal Planet! |

Yvette Gomez-Vaquera-Optometric Technician-Vvette was born and raised in San Antonio and is a graduate of the San Antonio College of Medical and Dental Assistants. She has an extensive Ophtalmology Technician background while working at Medical Center Opthalmology Associates, Spectrum Healthcare and Magnum Opus. She is extremely proud of her two year old son and enjoys spending time with her family and friends. A devout Spurs fan and shopper as well a constant listener of music completes her hobbies. Yvette is a welcome addition to the Vision Source team.

Ashley Madden -Administrative Assistant- Ashley is a graduate of Harlingen High School and has an Associate degree in Medical Administration. Her goal is to return to school and become a Cytogenetic Technician. She is an avid pool player, bike rider, loves to knit and has an extensive DVD collection of movies. She mixes a mean cocktail and is an experienced bartender. Ashley's duties include: making appointments, taking patient insurance information, and inprocessing and out processing Vision Source patients in an efficient and timely manner.

Veronica Galvez-Adminstrative Assistant-Veronica was born and raised in El Paso where she graduated from Clint High School in 2000. She moved to San Antonio in 2002 and worked for a local optometrist for 2 years before getting married and moving to Japan. She recently moved back to San Antonio with her husband and son. She hopes to continue her education at UTSA with the goal of getting a dgree in Business Administration. Veronica enjoys spending time with her family and friends. |

Nina Felan - Administrative Assistant- Nina was born in San Antonio and raised in Von Ormy,Texas. She graduated from Somerset High School and worked in retail for seven years before graduating from the Evers school and got her license in phlebotomy. She gained knowledge and experience in medical administration and medical records while working at the Diabetes and Glandular Disease Clinc and Renal Associates before joining the Administrative Team at the Vision Source. She loves shopping for the latest in fashion and spending time with family and friends. Her 5 year old daughter, Kayal Rose, is the love of her life and enjoys her free time with her. Watch for her on America's Got Talent since dancing is her specialty. |

Thomas McLean
Director of Operations/Marketing - Tom has worked at the Vision Source for many years in the medical records and insurance departments and managed our TCBY Yogurt Franchise while in High School. He graduated from St. Mary's Hall in 1998 and received his BS and MBA from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in 2003.He spent his college summers in the intern programs at Frost Bank and HEB grocery store. Tom loves to travel and camp in National Parks in the US and Canada. Ask him about his family cruise to Alaska and Denali National Park. He joined the Vision Source in 2003 and trouble shoots computer problems, analyzes departmental functions, and implemented the Optometry.net internet marketing program. He planned and marketed the practice during the past four years to San Antonio businesses and other primary care facilties. Right now he wants to develop an office complex adjacent to our 4930 Evers Road location. Tom had a Destination Wedding in Cancun and purchased a new home that keeps him busy on nights and weekends remodeling and painting his former Parade of Homes model home. Tom enjoys camping and hiking and loved Rocky Mountain National Park after the Vision Source Annual meeting in Denver , Colorado this past Spring.

Terence Waddell
Optical Lab Manager- Terence joined the Vision Source team with over fifteen years experience in the optical field along with seven years of optical management. He is maintenance and electical certified through the Lenscrafter's and Eyemaster's management programs. He runs the production and maintenance of the Lab. During his time at the Vision Source, he has updated the Lab with new and innovative equipment. He offers 1 Hour Service for many jobs. Terence loves his children and is a huge basketball fan (Go Spurs Go). He enjoys body building and staying physically fit and also LOVES To EAT!!!!!

Sharon Rivera
Optician-Frame Stylist- Sharon is a recent transplant from the Midwest with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science. She is expanding her optical knowledge and will soon become ABO Certified. She has over a dozen years in the cosmetic industry along with a scientific background that she utilizes to help Vision Source customers select and dispense the latest in fashion eyewear. This unabashed moon child is ready for her second cruise in the Carribbean with Mr. Wonderful! She celebrated in Austin with the party faithful the Inauguration of President Obama and hopes our President can get the economy and health care under control! She just returned from a well deserved vacation with friends and family in Kansas and is busy getting ready for new activities in 2010 such as visiting Harry Potter in Universal studios. |

Pamela Sherman
Dispensing Optician- Pam was born and raised in San Antonio and has lived with her family in California before returning to the Alamo City. She has been in the optometric field for over 15 years and became a Certified Professional Optometric Technician in 2009. She enjoys working with people and helping them understand their vision and what corrective lenses are best for them. She loves helping everyone select their eyewear and knows what is best for the client. Pam has two lovely daughters and you can catch this "Dancing Machine" grooving to the Hits of the 80's on the weekends. Pam just moved into her new home and looks forward to a well deserved Cancun vacation in the coming months.

Sondra Walters
Optician's Assistant- Sondra was born and raised in San Antonio and graduated Cum Laude from Robert E. Lee_High School in 2007. She is attending San Antonio College and hopes to transfer to the University of Texas in the near future. She is an avid singer and has sung in the choir for over seven years. Catch her singing in a group on weekends! She enjoys spending time with her family and her new Teacup Chihuahua-"Gizmo"! When not in classes or helping patients with the eyeglass orders, she can be found at the shopping malls or taking in the latest Hollywood movies. She loves children and would like to teach kindergarten and elementary school in the coming years. Sondra was thrilled to receive an Honors certificate from San Antonio College for excellent academic achievement. She is busy taking classes at San Antonio College this summer and fall! |

David Dennis
Director of Physical Plant and Ground Maintenance- David joined the team to handle the increased maintenance and ground's upkeep for our new 6,000 square foot facility on the 1 1/2 acre office complex. David handles everything from hanging pictures, painting, spackling, lawn maintenance and weed control, sprinkler adjustments and repair, parking lot maintenance, optometric and optical equipment and repair, and filing of optometic/optical records. David spent twenty two years in the US Army and worked as an infantryman, helicopter mechanic, supply and transportation sergeant. David loves automotive repairs and tinkering with his truck. He enjoys good food so ask him to bar b que one of his Texas specialties! His daughter's wedding was a great success and was enjoyed by all!!! He is looking forward to a well earned vacation to Germany in the coming months.

The Staff In Our New Facility
We are ready to serve you our customer/our patient in our new 6,000 square foot facility just one mile north of our old Bandera Road Location. After eight long months,the City of San Antonio has replaced the street,curbing,and sidewalks. The Construction has been completed and the traffic patterns to the complex have returned to normal. However, with the construction on Loop 410 and IH 10, always allow 10 minutes more time in reaching our office.
